One notable feature of MCC’s Medical Assisting program is its inclusion of phlebotomy training, which prepares students for a phlebotomy technician certification, adding valuable skills to their repertoire.
The program offers flexibility in terms of campus locations and study formats, with options available in both Chicago Main and Evergreen Park. MCC also provides opportunities for students to further their careers through their Clinical Medical Assisting program, which includes 165 hours of externship experience and a partnership with UChicago Medicine as one of their Preferred Partners Pathways Programs.

Students become eligible for various certifications, including Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with externship completion. Additionally, those who complete the optional 120-hour externship at affiliated sites become eligible for phlebotomy certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT).

The program’s objectives encompass a wide range of knowledge and skills, including anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, electronic health records, medical insurance, billing and coding, CLIA-waived laboratory procedures, patient care, professionalism, effective communication, and critical thinking.
Upon completing the program, students become eligible to take exams for certifications such as National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT), and Certified EKG Technician (NCET) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
